Overview

Overview

EZ Wallet is a crypto wallet and trading app designed to lower the barrier to entry for everyday users. While most competitors focus on advanced traders with feature-heavy dashboards, our aim was to make buying, sending, and receiving crypto feel safe, simple, and approachable.

I worked as the sole Product Designer, leading the project from research and problem definition to UX/UI, design system, and prototypes.

The Problem

The Problem

When I first looked into existing wallets like Binance and Coinbase, I noticed the same pattern: endless dashboards, overwhelming charts, and technical jargon. These products are powerful, but for new users they’re intimidating—sometimes so much that people abandon the idea of entering crypto altogether.

The opportunity was clear: what if we designed a wallet that guides beginners, builds trust, and simplifies trading, while still giving hobbyists the tools they need?

Defining Direction

Defining Direction

To shape the project, I started with market research and a SWOT analysis of leading platforms. This helped us identify strengths to learn from—like Coinbase’s clean visual identity—and weaknesses to avoid, such as Binance’s cluttered user flows.

I then interviewed potential users ranging from first-time crypto explorers to hobbyist traders. Beginners described feeling “lost” or “afraid of pressing the wrong button.” More experienced users wanted speed and clarity but without sacrificing security.

These conversations gave me the backbone for our personas.

From there, I facilitated a vision workshop with the client, where we aligned on scope: the MVP would focus on three high-value actions—send, receive, and trade—with an onboarding flow that gets users to their first transaction quickly and safely.

Product Strategy

Product Strategy

The strategy was built on one North Star: time to first transaction. If a beginner could go from downloading the app to completing their first send, receive, or trade within minutes, we would know the experience was working.

The principles we adopted were simple:

  • Clarity over clutter.

  • Plain language over jargon.

  • Trust-building through transparency.

  • A modern, calm visual design that reflects security.

One of the main pain points user experience when using crypto wallets, is the crypto exchange process being quite stiff. So a simple yet intuitive UI was the solution for the problem.

MVP Metrics & Targets

MVP Metrics & Targets

From the beginning, I defined clear metrics to measure whether EZ Wallet was working. Success wasn’t about flashy UI—it was about whether users could confidently get through their first transaction.

From the beginning, I defined clear metrics to measure whether EZ Wallet was working. Success wasn’t about flashy UI—it was about whether users could confidently get through their first transaction.

  • Activation rate: 75–80%
% of new users who complete onboarding and fund their wallet.

  • Time-to-first transaction: ≤5 minutes for 70% of new users
Measures how quickly a user can set up and act, validating ease of use.

  • Task success rate: 90–92%
% of users who can complete send/receive without errors during usability testing.

  • First trade completion: 65–70%
% of activated users who complete at least one trade in their first session.

Validation

Validation

I tested the prototypes with both beginners and hobbyists, focusing on their ability to complete core actions without prior instruction.

  • BeginnersPeople who felt “lost” in Coinbase were able to send and receive crypto in EZ Wallet on their first try. The guided flows and plain-language confirmations reduced anxiety.

  • Hobbyists: More experienced users appreciated the lack of visual noise and the ability to move quickly without second-guessing themselves.

What stood out was that simplicity created trust. By stripping away jargon and focusing on clarity, we turned hesitation into confidence.

I also measured task completion time, and early testers consistently moved through send/receive in under 3 minutes. That was a strong signal that our MVP targets for time-to-first transaction were achievable.

My Ownership & Growth

My Ownership & Growth

Working as the sole designer gave me end-to-end responsibility. I wasn’t just producing wireframes—I was shaping the vision and success criteria with the “client,” running competitive research, defining flows, building the UI system, and validating with users.

This role pushed me to think beyond design craft:

  • I had to set measurable goals and defend design decisions with data, not just aesthetics.

  • I learned to communicate design in business terms, explaining how faster onboarding or simpler flows could directly translate into higher activation and retention.

  • I grew comfortable balancing the needs of two very different personas: beginners who needed guidance, and hobbyists who needed speed.

Ultimately, the project showed me how design can lower barriers to adoption in complex industries. By focusing on trust, clarity, and usability, EZ Wallet positioned itself not just as another crypto app, but as a way to bring new users into the market.
